One Threat Picture.
Thirty Languages.

Deterrence is a coalition undertaking. This site is published in NATO's two official languages and in a national language of every one of the Alliance's thirty-two member states — because allies who share the threat picture should be able to read the doctrine in their own words.

The Alliance's Two.

English and French are the official languages of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization — and of Canada. Both editions carry the full site.

Member National Languages

Twenty-Seven More.

A national language of every other Alliance member state, alphabetically. Each edition uses the defence-procurement register of its ministry audience.

EN · authoritative text

Every language edition of this site is professionally prepared from the English master text, in the defence-procurement register of its audience. Where any wording differs between editions, the English text is authoritative.

Partner Nation

One More — By Partnership, Not by Membership.

Ukraine is not a NATO member state. Its edition is published here as a closely engaged partner nation, prepared in the same defence-procurement register as every other edition — kept in its own section so that adding it never overstates anyone's Alliance status.
